Since 1996 there is nothing that can stop the Pokémon Franchise to grow and prosper. Moreover, it’s been more than 20 years and Pokémon is still around. This evergreen game keeps on improving with every passing generation. Every time Pokemon games bring a new storyline, heroes, lands, and villains. To help everyone stay updated we have brought Pokemon games in order. Let’s take a look at how it all started:

1996

Pokémon Red and Green

The first two Pokemon games were released in the year 1996, in Japan. The Pocket Monsters Red and Green became quite popular within no time thus resulting in the release of another version. When it comes to putting Pokemon games in order this one will always come first.

1998

Pokémon Red and Blue

Pokémon Red and Blue was basically a reprogrammed version that became famous internationally. However, the original green version was only released in Japan. This game became famous among the people of all ages.

Pokémon Stadium

Pokémon Stadium was quite limited and did not come outside of Japan.

1999

Pokemon Pinball

This game is a combination of Pinball and Pokémon. It was released in the U.S and was known for being an effective yet a simple game.

Pokémon Snap

When it comes to making a list of Pokémon games in order this one holds a special place. This was the first 3D Pokemon game, released with some cool features. The best thing about this unique game is that players have the ability to bring their cartridges and get the print of their Pokémon Photos.

Pokémon Yellow

Pokémon Yellow was the third enhanced remake of the main RPG series. It became renowned because of its great resemblance with the very famous Pokemon anime. It had a concept of trainers traveling across the region called ‘Kanto’ with Pikachu following them.

2000

Pokémon Trading Card Game

Previous Pokemon versions were all about cartoons however this release introduced games and trading cards as well. These two new categories made players love the game even more as it improved the experience.

Pokémon Stadium

There is no doubt that it is the better version of Stadium hence it became a big hit. All the Pokemon battles are arranged in a 3D setting where players can join in with their own monsters.

Pokemon Gold and Silver

Gold and Silver are the sign of the second generation. It contains a better color palette with more options for the players. As compared to other Pokemon games this one comes with more gyms and collectibles. Hey You, Pikachu!

This one is equipped with a microphone; players can directly talk to their much love Pokémon in this game. Whenever the game recognizes the commands of the players, they get a chance to talk to Pikachu. However, the game hardly recognizes any commands.

Pokemon Puzzle League

It was launched in the U.S. and became popular quite quickly. The game is based on the Tetris Attack and utilizes the characters from the famous cartoon.

Pokémon Puzzle Challenge

Its approach is a bit different from the Puzzle League; its idea is more typical. This one uses gym leaders and Pokémon from the game Gold and Silver.

2001

Pokémon Stadium 2

This version of Stadium has numerous Pokemon. Its minigames and battles are more and better. Moreover, the game comes with an N64 Transfer Pack; with its help, you can play the game on TV as well.

Pokémon Crystal

This is the first Pokemon game that allows the player to select a gender. You can select either a boy character or a girl character. Pick your character wisely because it becomes a default option later.

2003

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire

This one is a more advanced, improved and better game. Despite having some amazing features it is criticized by some fans because of the presence of water-related characters. When putting Pokémon games in order Ruby and Sapphire game definitely brightens the list.

Pokémon Pinball

The Game Boy Advance is appreciated for making this outstanding pairing of Pinball and Pokemon. But the sad news is that this was the last time when these two games paired up together.

Pokemon Channel

This is considered one of the unique and weird games produced by the company. The makers realized that Pokémon fans like both watching and playing Pokémon, so they combined the two. It’s a bit difficult to identify its genre as it has a lot of things, simulation, adventure, and virtual pet games. The 3D graphics of the game makes it even more fun.

2004

Pokemon Colosseum

This is a third person perspective game. The name of the player by default is Wes. Throughout the game, the player is supposed to save Shadow Pokémon and bring it back to its original form. The overall game was well received by the fans mostly because of the amazing graphics and music.

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

It’s basically the remake of the original game. This one is specially made for the new generation with better graphics and advanced features. These games also have a female playable character option.

2005

Pokemon Dash

This one is a race video game where the Pikachu is controlled using a stylus. Unlike most of the games, it has multiple player support. There are different levels and types in the game that determine how fast you complete the course. The game was not received quite well by the audience.

Pokemon Emerald

You can call it a better version of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Moreover, it’s a role-playing game. The controls and gameplay are quite similar to the previous games. This overhead style game allows the characters to move around in four different directions. Besides that, characters can also talk to other people. It is one of the bestselling video games of its times.

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness

Pokémon Colosseum has a successor and that is the Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. All the Pokemon games can connect to this one via trading and battle modes. Like its predecessors this games also emphasizes capturing Shadow Pokemon and bringing it back to its purified form. The only complaint about this game was that it had the majority of the material recycled from Pokémon Colosseum.

2006

Pokémon Trozei

Pokémon Trozei is more like the puzzlers Yoshi’s Cookie and Tetris. The game board needs to be cleared in this puzzle-based video game. Players are supposed to move and match the blocks. Fans loved this challenging game and declared it as one of the most charming Pokemon games. When getting Pokémon games in order this one definitely sparks the list.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team and Red Rescue Team

These two versions are quite similar to each other. The graphical and sound quality of Blue Rescue Team is excellent. Like other Mystery Dungeon, these two versions also revolves around exploring dungeons. The originality of the game was loved and praised however the gameplay was not criticized.

Pokémon Ranger

This role-playing game is quite different from the regular Pokemon games. There is a device in this game known as ‘capture styler, it is used to catch a Pokémon. There are a total of ten main missions with three submissions. People had a positive response to it.

2007

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

This one came with a lot of adventurous elements. The basics are similar to its predecessors. The basic gameplay is similar to the previous ones; however, it is equipped with some additional features. According to the viewers, it is an engaging game.

Pokémon Battle Revolution

It comes with some charming features and is the very first Wii Pokemon game. Moreover, it has eleven Colosseums in it, each one is different from the other. It received mixed reviews from the critics.

2008

Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia

Shadows of Almia’ gameplay is quite similar to the original one. The overall gameplay is pretty unique with addition of some new characters. When getting Pokemon games in order this one comes first in 2008’s list.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/ Explorers of Darkness

The gameplay is again same as its predecessors. Players are given the position of the humans who have been turned into Pokemon. One of the new features is that your team can have more than four members.

2009

Pokémon Platinum

There is a unique twist in this game. You return back to the Diamond and Pearl world but of course with different twists and turns this time. The player begins the game with one player but can capture others with the help of Poke Balls.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky

This is an improved version of Explorers of Time and Darkness. Few scenes are the same however rest of them are totally new.

Pokémon Rumble

There is a change in this game, small toy like creatures are used to represent Pokémon. It is simple yet an exciting game.

2010

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver

It’s an enhanced version of the video game Pokemon Gold and Silver. The goal of this game is to become the best Pokémon trainer in certain regions. Moreover, it was positively received by the fans.

PokePark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure

This is all about Pikachu’s solo adventure however there are other Pokemon accompanying him along the journey.

Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs

Capture Styler is used in this game to draw circles around Pokemon so they get captured. Styler’s health goes down as soon as the Pokemon breaks through the drawn circles. Its visuals were highly appreciated while the overall game received average reviews.

2011

Pokemon Black and White

There are unique and better battle styles in this one, besides that there are more Pokémon as well. The three basic screens in this game are an overworld, a battle screen, and the menu. One of the most appreciated features in this game is that players are able to interact with their Pokemon.

Pokemon Rumble Blast

This one is similar to its predecessor Pokémon Rumble. It certainly has more features; overall Rumble Blast is simple and fun.

2012

Poke Park 2: Wonders Beyond

There is the fifth generation of monsters in this sequel and the gameplay revolves around Pikachu returning with friends.

Pokémon Conquest

This was regarded as one of the most awaited and curious releases. The best thing about this game is the combination of Pokemon with the historical Japanese setting. Apart from that it has high replay value and is loved by fans.

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2

There are a number of changes in this game from its predecessors. Additionally, it has a completely new story thus making it more desirable.

2013

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity

The gameplay is more like its predecessor but a bit simpler and duller than it.

Pokemon Rumble U

This one comes with all the Pokémon from first five generations. Four players can easily play this game at the same time; moreover, it has almost 100 Pokemon. All in all, it is simple but boring.

Pokémon X and Y

Pokémon X and Y have 3D functions. Furthermore, it has several adventure elements. There is a lot of new features, one of them is that players have the ability to change the appearance of their Pokémon trainer.

2014

Pokemon Battle Trozei

Trozei came back after almost eight years. Fans waited for it for long and loved it when it was back.

Pokémon Alpha Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

Most of the features of this game are similar to Pokemon X and Y. however, there are certain new features as well such as Primal Reversion and Latios used to fly around.

2015

Pokémon Shuffle

It’s more like a puzzle game where players fight against different Pokemon. The Hearts System of this game was not much appreciated as it requires almost thirty minutes for a heart to regenerate.

Pokemon Picross

Pokémon Picross is a unique puzzle game. The format of the game is more like a regular nonogram puzzle.

2016

Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo

This was 2016’s first new Pokemon game. Its charm is loved by the audience. Moreover, the talking Pikachu and quick-time events are other good things about it.

Pokken Tournament

It is inspired by a fighting game. Pokken Tournament has mixed gameplay elements from Tekken series. In addition to that, it was regarded as one of the best fighting games.

Pokémon Go

This AR mobile game has almost 150 species of Pokemon. There are some technical problems with the game but the concept is amazing.

Pokemon Sun and Moon

The gameplay is adventurous where the player controls the trainer and train Pokémon to fight against other trainers. The engaging adventure was praised by the audiences and critics.

2017

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Its gameplay is a bit similar to Diamond and Pearl; the issues are almost the same. But, this version comes with new elements, new forms, and beasts. It definitely has some good new features.

2018

Pokémon: Let’s go Pikachu and let’s go Eevee

Let’s Go is simple and fun. It is designed in a way which allows the new audience to adapt to it quickly. Atop it comes with some quality features.
